Friday's Late Late Show will pay tribute to Chieftains founder Paddy Moloney
Liam Neeson, Angela Scanlon, and Keith Earls will also appear on this week's episode of RTÉ One's Late Late Show.
This week's Late Late Show lineup has been announced, and it is set to include a tribute to the late Paddy Moloney, who died aged 83.
Moloney's death was announced on Tuesday. As founder and leader of the Chieftains, Moloney was an impactful figure in Irish music. Tributes poured in for the musician, including from President Michael D. Higgins, who said, "Paddy, with his extraordinary skills as an instrumentalist, notably the uilleann pipes and bodhrán, was at the forefront of the renaissance of interest in Irish music, bringing a greater appreciation of Irish music and culture internationally."
In a tribute, Hot Press editor Niall Stokes said: "He was an outstanding uileann piper and a superb arranger. But he also saw the huge potential in the music, and went on to realise that more fully than could possibly have been imagined when The Chieftains started out."
"It really does feel like the end of what was an astonishingly productive and inspiring era," he continued. "Paddy Moloney was a small man physically, but he was a musical giant. He gave so much to Irish music and led the way in popularising it all across the globe. Without him, nothing would have or could have been the same. We are all hugely in his debt."
In addition to the Paddy Moloney tribute, the upcoming Late Late Show episode will feature appearances from Liam Neeson, Angela Scanlon, and Keith Earls.
Neeson, who is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, will discuss the organisation's 'Get A Vaccine - Give a Vaccine' campaign. Scanlon will chat with presenter Ryan Tubridy about her upcoming Saturday night show, Angela Scanlon's Ask Me Anything. The final guest, rugby icon Earls, will talk about his childhood, career, and mental health struggles.
This week's episode will air Friday, October 15 at 9:35pm on RTÉ One.
