Lankum's Daragh Lynch to perform at Dún Laoghaire Folk Fest as part of Bright Phoebus celebration shows
He will be performing with more than a dozen other artists at the Dún Laoghaire Folk Fest on September 10
Lankum's Daragh Lynch is set to perform at this year’s Dún Laoghaire Folk Fest as part of a series of shows celebrating the British folk album Bright Phoebus, the influential 1971 folk-rock album by Lal Waterson and Mike Waterson.
The Dublin date will take place on September 10, at the Dún Laoghaire Folk Fest at the Pavilion Theatre. Additional performances are scheduled for London on September 8 and Manchester on September 12.
Best known as a member of Irish folk group Lankum, Lynch will join a line-up that also includes British musician Marry Waterson, singer-songwriter Eliza Carthy and more than a dozen other performers across the run of shows.
Released in 1971, Bright Phoebus has become regarded as a landmark record within British folk music. The album featured contributions from several musicians connected to the British folk scene of the time. Despite its popularity, copies of the LP became difficult to obtain over the years, leading it to be regarded as a lost record.
The shows are organised by London-based promoter and record label Broadside Hacks.
In a social media statement, the organisers said: “Following the parting of ways of The Watersons and freed from the strictures of folk orthodoxy, Lal and Mike Waterson’s love of words allowed them to serve the needs of their songs in ways that weren’t possible when singing already written songs.”
Tickets for the performances are available here.
