Australian pop icon Kylie Minogue has dramatically ended her engagement to British actor Joshua Sasse... only days after she publicly confessed her love for him on ITV's 'This Morning' breakfast show.
Kylie, who met the 29-year-old actor in 2015 while filming a perfume advert, has thrown her fiancé out of her home after he "grew too close" to a Spanish actress named Marta Milans, according to the Sun newspaper.
"She is absolutely devastated, totally heartbroken. She really believed he was The One. But she no longer trusts him," a source said.
Sasse - who is probably best known for playing the leading role in ABC's TV show 'Galavant' - is said to have become "very close" to the 34-year-old Spanish actress while filming the TV series 'No Tomorrow' in Canada last year.
Taking to Instagram this morning, Kylie confirmed that they had broken up. "Josh and I have decided to go our separate ways," she wrote. "We wish only the best for each other as we venture towards new horizons."
Talking about her wedding plans last Tuesday morning on the ITV show, the 48-year-old Kylie joked about her character's wedding in the soap Neighbours. "I'm taking no inspiration from Charlene's wedding dress. It was of the time. We laugh about it now," she said. "But I have to say, the gyp flowers she wore in her hair. I don't mind those if they are done properly."
While in a recent interview with the Daily Mail's 'You' magazine, Kylie also revealed her plans to take Joshua's surname after they tied the knot. "Sasse is a great name. Kylie Sasse is a great name. It’s a great stage name. Kylie Minogue has never exactly tripped off the tongue," she stated.
"I’ll definitely be taking Sasse but there will be Minogue in there somewhere. Taking a different name makes a statement... Nobody wants to be Mr Minogue. It takes a very strong man to put themselves in that position and I fully appreciate that."
Kylie had stated that she was in "no rush" to get married. "[There's] no rush. I'm happy enjoying being engaged, it’s a lovely time we have together. There’s no pressure. My mum isn’t buying a hat. Everyone is very happy for us as we are. My parents love him. Everybody in my family thinks he’s wonderful ..." she declared.
"Josh told me [the ring] was made in 1908. For me, it is perfect. I’m not the sort of girl who would wear a solitaire. He got exactly the right ring for me. I love it. I love wearing it and I love what it represents."
She added, "The world around you sees it differently and a lot of guys can’t deal with that. When I look into Josh’s eyes, he is all I see and that makes me very happy.
"There’s a line in the movie 'Notting Hill' that I always think of, when Julia Roberts is talking to Hugh Grant, and she says, 'I’m just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her'. For me, it’s that simple."
Unfortunately, in the end, it doesn't appear to have been "that simple"....
