KK Lewis looks ahead to Electric Picnic: "There’s so many nooks and crannies. You can go exploring and find the most bizarre situations"
As part of our special Festival Voices series, KK Lewis shares her EP reflections...
"What I love about Electric Picnic is that there’s so many nooks and crannies. You can go exploring and find the most bizarre situations. Last year I was walking around, and I ended up at this wrestling tournament in the middle of nowhere with this DJ, and I just thought it was fantastic.
"Chappell Roan was so good. I generally like the smaller stages and the smaller acts, but she was very laidback, and it was incredible. Ireland was screaming its love for Chappell Roan – it was a nice moment.
"I’m known for slower, folkier, intimate-style sets, but a lot of my new music is in the direction of neo-soul, R&B – it’s more fuller-bodied. My set is going to reflect that. Ireland is known for trad music and folk sets, and while my music isn’t that, it’s still about storytelling – that’s the Irishness in my music – except it’s developed into something more fun, and having a bit of a dance.
"The energy from the crowd is my favourite part of a performance, when everyone is just a little bit more off-guard. Especially on day two, day three, everyone’s just a little looser, and they’re more tapped into it. That energy makes me really excited to play. I bounce off the crowd so much when I’m playing, so the more open the crowd, the more we get to enjoy ourselves.
"I’m excited to see Geese and also Zara Larsson – she’s had this comeback out of nowhere, and her new album is so good! When she brings the little girls on stage, they always know the ‘Lush Life’ dance to a T, it’s incredible. Also CMAT, I’ve seen her perform at least 10 times, and I will gladly do it again!
KK Lewis plays The Lovely Local (3pm on Friday, August 28) and Spike Island (6.30pm on Saturday, August 29) at Electric Picnic 2026.
