King Con
Quirky Detroit songstress is top of the pops
Endorsed by legends such as Chuck Berry, The Rolling Stones and, um, Jack Penate, America’s latest queen of the kooks Alex Winston unveils her debut album King Con, and if you love weird and wonderful pop music, then you’re in for a treat. Featuring songs culled from her previous EPs, plus a few extras thrown in, the album is big on harmonies, melodies and hooks. ‘Locomotive’ and ‘Guts’ are lushly produced, infectious numbers that are like Empire Of The Sun and Kate Bush at their most tunesome. If you felt let down by the unrelenting gloom of Lana Del Rey’s debut, then buy King Con: it’s the perfect pick me up.
