Kenny Morris from Siouxsie And The Banshees has died aged 68
The drummer who played on the band’s first two classic albums, The Scream and Join Hands, has passed away.
Kenny Morris, the original drummer for Siouxsie And The Banshees, has died at the age of 68
Morris, who was born in London to Irish parents, was instrumental in shaping the Banshees' distinctive early sound. His drumming style has been widely credited as the rhythmic foundation for their seminal debut album, The Scream (1978), and their 1979 follow-up, Join Hands. Before joining the band in January 1977, he had a brief collaboration with Sid Vicious's pre-Sex Pistols project, Flowers Of Romance.
Morris's time with The Banshees ended abruptly in September 1979 when he and guitarist John McKay quit following an argument during an in-store record signing. Following his departure, Morris engaged in a variety of pursuits, including production, filmmaking, and drumming.
In the early 1990s, he relocated to Cork, immersing himself in the visual arts. He worked as a visual artist, teaching, and managing an art gallery. In recent years, his paintings have been featured in art exhibitions across Dublin.
Morris completed his memoir during the pandemic, which was scheduled for publication later this year.
