Ken Loach film shortlisted for Cannes Film Festival award
Ken Loach's film The Wind That Shakes The Barley has been nominated for the most prolific prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
Shot in Ireland and starring Cillian Murphy (Batman Begins, Breakfast On Pluto) and Padraic Delaney, the epic drama depicts the relationship of two brothers who fought on the same side for Irish independence, but on opposite sides in the Irish Civil War of 1922.
The film has been nominated for the Palme d'Or award, acknowledged as the film industry's most distinguished prize. Also included in the 19 that are up for the title are Richard Linklater's Fast Food Nation, Richard Kelly's Southland Tales, Babel by Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez, and Andrea Arnold's Red Road.
Former winners are Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver, Quentin Tarintino's Pulp Fiction and Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now.
The Wind That Shakes The Barley receives its world premiere at Cannes before opening across Britain and Ireland on June 23.
