Portlaoise indie/alternative singer Kean Kavanagh has announced a series of upcoming performances across Ireland and the UK today, along with a new music video for his track 'Time Goes By'.
Kavanagh will tour across Europe this November and December, along with a standalone performance at All Together Now in Waterford on August 3. His Irish dates include The Black Box in Belfast (December 15), Button Factory in Dublin (December 17), Roisin Dubh in Galway (December 18), Kasbah at Dolan's in Limerick (December 19) and Crane Lane Theatre in Cork (December 20).
'Time Goes By' is taken from Kavanagh's debut album The Country Star, which Hot Press rated nine out of ten after its release in June.
The Country Star reflects Kavangh's culture-straddling between his birthplace of Texas and his upbringing in Co. Laois, the singer said in an interview with Hot Press last month.
"I wanted the visuals of this album to signify the imagery of Americana: space helmets, cowboy hats and the like," Kavanagh said.
"The album is a mix of things inspired by my own life, but there’s plenty of imagined stuff in there as well. I started to centre on this figure of the ‘county star’, and it can mean so many things. On one hand, it gives these Irish, GAA-centric vibes, but it could also be the name of a newspaper in Texas, or even the name of a pub. The idea of this local county star is just amusing to me.”
The video for 'Time Goes By' reflects the fictionalised cultural mix, with Kavanagh and band performing in cowboy get-up on the pitch of Portlaoise's O'Moore Park. Music video stars include Rathdrum actor/director Peter McGann and Dublin filmmaker/rapper Kojaque and director Robert Bass.
The new video fits into a narrative series along with previous singles ‘The Whistle’, ‘A Cowboy Song’, and ‘Father Brown’s', with the former being his first solo release since his Wrestling Music EP in 2023 and Dog Person mixtape in 2020 before that.
The Country Star was released via Soft Boy Records, a label of Kavanagh's own creation in collaboration with Kojaque. Soft Boy Records was featured in a Boiler Room documentary in 2019.
Tickets for The Country Star tour go on sale Friday, July 18 on Ticketmaster.
