Karleidoscope
Too drippy by half effort from boy-girl duo
Peddling tunes that are cuter than a basket of kittens, Carosel’s debut Kaleidoscope is most definitely a acquired taste. Boasting jazz, folk and pop influences, the boy/girl duo are almost too sweet to bear over the course of 40minutes or so. Album opener ‘Easy As It Flows’ grates on the ears by the song’s conclusion, ‘The Way I Am’ is a MOR fan’s wet dream and the rest of the record is a little too close to Nancy Sinatra and her ilk for comfort. While the album is superbly recorded and the playing is exceptional, it’s not enough to win us over in the end.
Key Track: 'Sun Is Shining'
