Stylistically, Adam F falls somewhere between Dre and Timbaland
Ex-Junglist (and quite a good one at that) Adam F has ditched the 170bpm beats and the studio in Essex and decamped to NYC and the world of 90bpm jiggyness. In short, he’s gone a bit bling. And after wowing LL Cool J with his production skills in the past year, he’s managed to attract an a-list selection of rappers to inject life to his beats – Redman, De La Soul, MOP, Guru, Beenie Man and LL. Stylistically, Adam F falls somewhere between Dre and Timbaland – only with added pomp. There’s no faulting the beats even though an element of his D’n’B past could have lent the whole show an added edge. The problem lies with the rappers. Too much gusto and not enough thought – symptomatic of the world of jiggy in general.
Still, as far as party bangers go, it’s hard to top Redman on ‘Smash Sumtin’’, De La on ‘Time 4 Da True’ and Beenie Man on ‘Dirty Harry’s Revenge’. Need something to rock the party? Buy this. Looking for depth? Look elsewhere.
