Jorginho calls Chappell Roan controversy a 'misunderstanding'
"I made my initial statement in the heat of the moment, after hearing that my child and wife had been approached by an adult male security guard in an intimidating way. I reacted as any father would," said Jorginho.
Jorginho has called the Chappell Roan controversy a 'misunderstanding,' saying he "regrets the impact" the situation created for the singer.
Nearly a month after the widely publicised incident in which he claimed that Roan's bodyguard behaved aggressively toward his daughter during Lollapalooza Festival weekend in Brazil, the footballer issued a statement, clarifying the situation.
"I would like to give an update on what happened during Lolla weekend, as we have been seeing and hearing a lot over the past few weeks and felt it was important to clarify everything now that new information has come to light," he said.
"I made my initial statement in the heat of the moment, after hearing that my child and wife had been approached by an adult male security guard in an intimidating way. I reacted as any father would. My priority is, and always will be, protecting my family, and that is exactly what I did."
Jorginho also said that the situation occurred as it was originally described by him.
"A large security guard came over to their table while they were still having breakfast and began speaking in an extremely aggressive manner to both my wife and my daughter, saying she shouldn't allow my daughter to 'disrespect' or 'harass' other people," the footballer took to Instagram last month.
The security guard confirmed to take full responsibility for the incident, saying he was representing another artist at that time. Roan also addressed the situation in a video statement when the news first broke, apologising to the mother and daughter.
Jorginho ultimately called the situation "a misunderstanding," saying he's "glad to set the record straight".
"It's important to me that this is clarified fairly and accurately. I regret the impact this situation has had on Chappell Roan, Catherine, Ada, and our family."
"As far as I am concerned, this matter is closed," he added.
Roan has faced significant backlash since the controversy first became public, with the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro saying on X that the singer "will never perform at Todo Mundo no Rio."
