Jollybar
There's a fine line between genius and lunacy, and Jollybar is an accurate musical representation of this thin divide.
There's a fine line between genius and lunacy, and Jollybar is an accurate musical representation of this thin divide. Not that any speculation about sanity will bother Jolly Music's authors, Francesco De Bellis and Mario Pierro, as they've been responsible for some fairly wacky musical 'experiments' in their time. Alternating between wildly different sounds, the duo cut, paste and collage 60s easy listening, folk songs, acid rock and cheesy 80s synth pop to create what initially sounds like an irritating racket. However, listen to Jollybar a few more times and it begins to make perfect sense. Split between slower, chilled moments and house led numbers - most notably ' 'Piano', where an acoustic guitar and vocoders add an atmospheric, yet quirky edge, Jollybar messes with and twists the rules while managing to deliver occasional strokes of genius.
