The AOR gods are smiling on us! Having barely stepped out of North America for the past 20 years, John Mellencamp is paying Dublin’s Grand Canal Theatre a visit on June 28.
Tickets are €59.80 and go on sale on Friday March 25.
One of the acts who achieved lift off here courtesy of ‘Fab’ Vinny Hanley – ask your parents! – and his MT-USA show, Mellencamp will be mixing little ditties like ‘Jack & Diane’, ‘Hurt So Good’, ‘Cherry Bomb’ and ‘The Authority Song’ with tracks from his current T Bone Burnett-produced No Better Than This album.
The night’s opening act will be It’s About You, Kurt Markus’ Super8 documentary account of the Indiana singer-songwriter’s 2009 baseball stadium tour with Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson.
The gig itself will be in three sections – Mellencamp playing acoustically, fronting a small blues/country/rockabilly/roots combo and rocking out with his full band.
