Sing Street to open Audi Dublin International Film Festival
The festival will take place from February 18-28
Audi Dublin International Film Festival has announced that the film Sing Street will open the upcoming festival on February 18, 2016.
The feature will detail a young boy who is growing up in Ireland in 1980's, and in order to escape his strenuous family life, he starts a band with his peers.
Directed by John Carney, the movie stars Ferdia Walsh-Peelo, Lucy Boynton, Aidan Gillen, Maria Doyle Kennedy and Jack Reynor.
Festival director Gráinne Humphreys commented on the Sing Street's appearance at the event, "Sing Street is possibly the most perfect film with which to open a Dublin festival. A beautiful valentine to Dublin, John Carney’s nostalgic celebration of 80s music will cause a sensation."
Carney responded to Sing Street being featured at the festival, "I'm excited to have Sing Street premiere at the festival. The film loosely charts my own experiences as a skinny kid in a pretty rough and tumble school in the mid 80s in Dublin. I invite any of the school bullies from back then (teachers included), to the screening, where I will publicly fight them."
The Audi Dublin International Film Festival will take place over a 10-day period from February 18-28. Season tickets are currently available for the early-bird price of €175 until January 5. After this date, they will be sold at full price €200.
