Young pop sensation Lyra chats with us about the importance of Ireland's tight-knit music community.
Lyra wants women to know that "together, we can get through anything." The young Cork native, who skyrocketed to viral notoriety last year, is optimistic about how well the single has done so far. "Everyone deserves to feel safe," she says. It’s so important to be supporting charities such as Safe Ireland, as it can provide women and children with the support and reinsurance they need. Particularly at a difficult time like this, where external pressures and stresses can cause emotions to run high – which can result in abusive behaviours at home. This just highlights the importance of supporting Safe Ireland."
So when RuthAnne first contacted LYRA about the single, what did she think? "Time to get out of my PJ's," she jokes. "I was delighted and couldn’t wait to get involved! I have loved being part of such a great cause, and coming together with an amazing group of ladies has made me feel so proud!"
As for Dolores O'Riordan, the confidence her legacy gave a young Lyra has been essential to the burgeoning pop star's success. "Dolores has always been an inspiration to me, particularly as an Irish artist. By listening to her music, she had a massive influence on my singing style and gave me the confidence to sing in my own accent – which is something I have always held onto. Her style of music and unique voice will always be remembered."
