Irish Independent Film Scoops Four Awards At 2015 International Film Festival

It was a good night last night for director Donal Nugent as his film took home four of the top gongs at yesterday's Angel Film Awards at the 2015 Monaco International Film Festival.

Nugent's feature debut bagged him Best Director while the film itself won Best Feature Award as well as Best Actress (Lorna Larkin) and Best Supporting Actress (Orla McGovern).

Nugent spoke of the film in an interview previously with Irish Film Makers that the film is about "relationships and power, reality and perception. The story centres on Janice, a woman who has made some mistakes in her life but realises that what she now has is all that she really wants. She and her husband move into a new house and she starts seeing the ghosts of a couple there. Gradually she realises that something quite terrible has happened – the husband is a sociopath who is trying to drive his wife to suicide. Janice begins to research the history of the house and finds a couple lived there who match what she is seeing."

Speaking before the ceremony yesterday Nugent said: "North Circular Road was made on a tiny budget, but the passion and skill of everyone who worked on it shines through in the film’s quality. It is a huge honour to be selected for the Angel Film Awards, and to feature in an incredibly prestigious line up."

North Circular Road is expected to hit cinema screens next year.
