Dua Lipa honours Sinéad O'Connor with 'Nothing Compares 2 U' cover

During her Radical Optimism tour, Dua Lipa has been bolstering her setlist with cover songs and surprise guest appearances. To wrap up the European leg of the tour in Dublin on Friday night, the pop star paid tribute to Sinéad O’Connor with a performance of 'Nothing Compares 2 U'.

In fan-captured footage from the concert, she expressed how honoured she felt to perform the song and invited the crowd to sing along if they know the lyrics.

“Tonight, I am honoured to perform a song by a late Irish legend,” Dua Lipa said to the crowd as she introduced ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’, via Consequence.

The song, originally written by Prince and first released on the 1985 self-titled album by his band The Family, gained fame through O’Connor’s 1990 rendition. "If you know the lyrics, feel free to sing along," Lipa continued.

The West Hampstead singer's rendition of ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ is the latest standout moment from her Radical Optimism tour, which has featured a series of high-profile guest appearances and cover performances.

At the first of two recent shows at London’s Wembley Stadium, Lipa surprised fans by bringing out Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay to perform the band’s 1996 hit ‘Virtual Insanity’.

The second night was equally electrifying, with Charli XCX joining Lipa onstage for a performance of ‘360’, from Charli's chart-topping album brat.

The Radical Optimism tour will pick up again in September with a North American leg stretching into October, before heading to Latin America for additional dates in November and December.
