Ireland takes home many prizes at the British Independent Film Awards
The awards that Ireland received totalled to five last night
Last night was a big night for the Irish at the British Independent Film Awards in London with many actors and directors from our country taking home the prizes.
Brendan Gleeson won 'Best Supporting Actor' for the Suffragette film, which was collected on his behalf by Domhnall Gleeson. Additionally, Room won 'Best International Independent Film', while Stephen Fingleton won the Douglas Hickox Award ('Best Debut Director') forThe Survivalist. Finally, Saoirse Ronan won 'Best Actress' for her performance in the acclaimed film Brooklyn and Olivia Colman won 'Best Supporting Actress' for starring in The Lobster.
Ireland's film industry has gained much recognition as of late with actors and directors fromBrooklyn and The Room being nominated for a number of other awards across the globe, including ones in the United States.
