International Deejay Gigolos Volume 4

Hell’s piss-ripping Munich-based Deejay Gigolo’s label has always looked to sources more diverse than most of the body popping stamps, and their fourth collection proves that they’re still way ahead of the competition. Constantly changing styles over the course of the twenty four tracks on offer, the label takes in the daft punk rock of Tuxedomoon, old house classics from the likes of Jonzon and even what sounds like a German version of slick 80s boy pop music. Hilarious, thigh-slapping stuff, but there’s also a serious musical side at play here too. Station Rose, Valium and Trike serve up deep, cinematic techno, Hell and Terrence Fixmer opt for foreboding electronic grooves, while the electro contributions alternate between minimal stuff from Sylvie Marks and David Caretta and mock serious, at times grandiose material from Dopplereffekt and Foremost Poets utterly inspired ‘Pressing On’. No one knows how to fast forward the past quite like Gigolos.
