Inspirations
For those of you not familiar with IG, he makes hyperactive jazzy breakbeats with a very modern swing that are best described as ‘Giles Peterson music’.
King Britt selected the tracks for Inspirations Part One, now it’s the turn of West London broken beat geezer IG Culture to nominate his desert island discs.
For those of you not familiar with IG, he makes hyperactive jazzy breakbeats with a very modern swing that are best described as ‘Giles Peterson music’. Quite difficult to listen to for the un-initiated.
This compilation goes a little way toward explaining his obsession with all things difficult - it’s all very cool and serious in a retro kinda way. That means lost classics from Crown Heights Affair, Boogie Down Productions, Rick Holmes, Oneness Of Juju, Dennis Brown and Trouble Funk amongst others. See? Very cool. But while there’s some moments that not even a mother could love (Special Request’s ‘Salsa Smurf’ is strictly for the ageing b-boys), overall, it’s a positive education. [B O’D] 8
