Today is a big day at Hot Press - we're celebrating our 800th issue!

And from Rory Gallagher in 1977 to Glen Hansard today, we've had many famous faces grace the cover of Hot Press over the years. These covers reflect the stories that were important as the magazine developed, as well as Ireland's changing life and times over the 30 odd years the magazine has flown the flag.

"It was great fun putting the issue together," says Hot Press publisher and editor Niall Stokes. "Any newspaper or magazine has to have great journalism at the heart of its mission. But you also have to aspire to looking fantastic, which is where the art directors, photographers and designers come in.

Some of the covers are brilliant. Others, just as surely, reflect the madness of the time. But collectively they give a marvellous insight into the way in which music developed through the decades – as well as the Irish cultural landscape against which we are operating."
