If You Got It
Funktastic debut from ireland’s answer to George Clinton and his mates
The Irish are good at many things. For example, there are few who can touch us when it comes to writing, comedy and charm. However it’s safe to say that we’ve never yet made a world-shattering impact on the world of funk. Dublin’s The Candidates are here to set this sorry situation right or to have a good run at it at least. Their four track mini-album (plus a bonus alternative mix of ‘If You Got It’) is a high energy funk-fest with some pretty sweet grooves. While The Candidates aren’t quite in the same league as Prince or George Clinton – well, who is? – the record offers a short, sharp, fun-filled collision of gang vocals, walking bass-lines and brass that makes you want to boogie. In short, it’s the business.
Key Track: ‘If You Got It’
