PHOTOS: The Frames return to Whelan's
Up close and personal as Glen and the boys take over the Wexford St venue...
It was standing room only as The Frames conquered Whelan's on Monday evening, armed with special guests - The Coronas' Danny O'Reilly, fresh from a sold-out Kilmainham, among them - and typically cacophonous sounds.
As our man Colm O'Hare reports:
Returning to the scene of some of their earliest triumphs as part of Whelan’s 25th Anniversary celebrations The Frames performed an epic 30-song set for those lucky enough to have bagged a ticket. Joined onstage by friends and musical allies, including Mundy, Danny O’Reilly from The Coronas and Lisa O’Neill, Glen Hansard and crew blazed through their back catalogue with an impressive vigor – even finding room in the set for the late Mic Christopher’s ‘Heyday’ and a Last Waltz style rendition of the Dublin anthem, ‘The ‘Aul Triangle’. You really had to be there!
We sent Kathrin Baumbach along to capture the evening direct from the front row. Check out a full gallery of the night's action here.
