José Gonzalez announces Vicar Street show

Swedish indie-folk singer José González has announced a show at Dublin's Vicar Street on January 26, 2027.

In March, he released Against The Dying Of The Light, which marked his first new album in four years and his fifth solo record. His live set will feature these songs alongside highlights from across his catalogue.

"Against The Dying Of The Light is a reflection on how we create hurdles to human flourishing by clinging stubbornly to dogmatic ideologies where people follow dudes who pretend to know shit they don't know," explained González.

"These are songs about how we can navigate humanity towards flourishing on an individual and a collective level. They can be listened to just for the sounds, harmonies, and rhythms, but the lyrics are meant to inspire people to engage and take action by collaborating to solve collective problems."

Before Against The Dying Of The Light, he released Local Valley in 2021.

In an album review, Hot Press wrote Local Valley was "rather like dipping into a particularly welcoming bath: a balm for the soul amid the virus-driven stresses and strains of the past 18 months."

Born to Argentinian parents but raised in Gothenburg, Sweden, González got his start playing in both a hardcore band and a choir as a teen. Later, in 2003, he released his debut album, Veneer, featuring his cover of The Knife's 'Heartbeats' - which peaked at No. 9 on the Official UK Singles Chart in January 2006.

The last time he performed in Ireland was at the Night and Day Festival in Co Roscommon last year. He's also played festival sets at All Together Now and Longitude in the past.
