Gilla Band announce Vicar Street show

Dublin post-punk and noise rock quartet Gilla Band have announced a date at Dublin's Vicar Street on February 27, 2027, to celebrate the release of their upcoming album Pugnello, out this Friday.

This comes as part of their international tour spanning North America in late 2026, followed by the UK and Europe in early 2027.

Earlier this month, they released 'Alogia' - the second single off Pugnello.

"Alogia means poverty of speech linked to mental health conditions," said vocalist Dara Kiely. "I was diagnosed with schizophrenia while writing the lyrics. I thought I could just walk off the old mental illness but alas!"

The debut song from the record, 'Giraffe', was the band's first new music in nearly four years - following their third album, Most Normal, which was released in 2022.

"In this track, the first few sections represent what my general headspace is like," explained Kiely.

"It can be a very scattered and sometimes lonely place. Feeling unloved and finding it difficult to articulate what I'm actually thinking. The outro, on the other hand, indirectly details a kind of confirmation that affection towards me does exist."

Founded in 2011 under the name Girl Band, Gilla Band comprises Kiely, guitarist Alan Duggan, bassist Daniel Fox and drummer Adam Faulkner.

A pre-release listening event for Pugnello will take place on September 23 at Dublin's The Big Romance. The waitlist for tickets is available here.
