Hot For 2021 Irish Acts: Tolü Makay
In a world of shuttered music venues and snatched-away opportunities, Ireland’s music community continues to defy the odds – with young, emerging artists defiantly rising above seemingly insurmountable challenges, and flying the flag for their country. This bold energy, independent ethos and genre-defying talent is evident across our list of Hot For 2021 Irish Acts – which features artists from every corner of Ireland.
Tolü Makay:
Born in Nigeria and raised in the midlands of Ireland, Makay began her musical journey singing in her local Redeem Church. The young singer has a stunning, soulful quality to her voice, and her debut EP BEING was a richly textured offering. Her remarkable RTÉ Concert Orchestra-assisted cover of The Saw Doctors’ ‘N17’ went viral over Christmas leading to its rush release by Rubyworks.
Hear: ‘Let Me In’.
Watch: Her performance on the Hot Press Lockdown Sessions on our IGTV.
