Hollywood, Mon Amour
Why waste your time saying something someone’s already said when you can do something new?
Ok, it’s time for a confession. I really hate cover versions. No, scratch that, I detest covers with a passion. Why waste your time saying something someone’s already said when you can do something new? It’s a pointless exercise that reached its zenith with those 90s basket cases Undercover, and now it looks like Marc Collin, aka Hollywood Mon Armour, is eager to recreate other people’s tunes in his image too. What’s the twist, you ask? Well the Parisian composer has decided that every song on this self-titled opus should be from 80s film soundtracks, and has taken away the high energy of cheesy anthems like ‘Footloose’ and ‘Call Me’ and rather unforgivably replaced it with a lounge muzak back-beat in the vein of Mike Flowers’ Pops. This is the type of record your 30-something geography teacher would think is “nice.” High praise indeed…
