Hoarsebox live at The Button Factory, Dublin
Having supported the likes of The Stranglers and Republic of Loose, newcomers Hoarsebox know all about winning over an audience.
The band have a frantic, off-key charm – they look as if they should be plying rough-hewn rock and roll but their music has a surprising pop polish. A perfect example of this is new single 'All I Need Now', which juxtaposes falsetto vocals and a chirruping keyboard to pleasing effect.
If there's a disappointment tonight it's the relatively small turn-out and the static atmosphere in the room. But Hoarsebox shouldn't be dissuaded. On this evening's evidence they have plenty of potential and a unique sound. If they can keep their 'wackier' impulses in check, they might just have a bright future ahead.
