Harrington Street
Classically trained trio craft an impressive acoustic guitar-based debut
There’s nothing pretentious about Liffeyside acoustic trio The Mysterious Chords. Their debut album Harrington Street is a lovingly crafted collection of folk songs and introspective ballads. ‘If You Know’ is a deliciously dark offering that boasts some wonderfully evocative cello playing, ‘Anything At All’ sounds like a cheerier Elliott Smith (no bad thing in this reviewer’s book) and the string-laden ‘Drink The Water’ excellently illustrates the three-piece’s considerable skills on the guitar without delving into the murky depths of showoff-ery. Fans of early Cat Stevens will lap this up (see what we did there?).
