Gary Glitter charged with four historical sexual offences
The 70s glam-rock star is currently being held at HMP Cannings Wood in Devon
Gary Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, has been charged with historical sexual offences dating back to 1978.
The 82 year-old was charged with unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 and a further three counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14.
The charges relate to one victim, alleged to have occurred between the years of 1978 and 1981 at a residential address in Kensington, London.
The case was first reported to the Metropolitan Police on January 9, 2025 and an investigation was launched. Gadd was first interviewed on July 22, 2025 in relation to the incident.
Gadd rose to prominence in the 1970s, becoming widely known for his glam rock persona, glitter suits and platform boots. His most successful album was Touch Me, released in 1973 which peaked at no.2 on the UK Albums Chart.
Gadd's fall from grace began when he was first jailed in 1999 for the possession of child pornography. He later moved to Cambodia but was deported on suspected child sexual abuse in 2002. In 2015, he was convicted of sexually abusing three schoolgirls between 1975 and 1980.
Gadd is set to make his first appearance at Westminster Magistrates' Court on August 5. He is currently being held at HMP Cannings Wood in Devon.
Speaking to the BBC, a Deputy Chief from the Crown Prosecution Service, said there was enough evidence to bring the case to court and it was in the public interest to do so.
"This follows allegations made by a woman relating to a period of alleged abuse that took place between 1978 and 1981." Bethan David says, "Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence."
