The plan is to split the final 13 episodes into Season 7 & 8
Game of Thrones producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss revealed to Variety in a recent interview that they only envision a further 13 episodes after the sixth season.
The pair sat down with the US magazine to promote the upcoming sixth season and when conversation turned to further seasons and how the show will end, the pair dropped the bombshell.
"I think we’re down to our final 13 episodes after this season. We’re heading into the final lap," said Benioff. "That’s the guess, though nothing is yet set in stone, but that’s what we’re looking at."
Said episodes would be split over two more seasons, with Season 7 getting seven episodes and Season 8 getting six which means we're most likely in the last year of a 10-week run of GoT.

"We’ve known for several years now how many hours, roughly, we want it to go," Benioff elaborated. "It hasn’t changed."
HBO bosses were quick to comment that nothing is set in stone yet, releasing a statement saying:
"Any conversations about the end of Game of Thrones and the number of episodes of future seasons is purely speculative. As is customary, HBO will sit with Dan and David to discuss the details once a decision has been made to go forward with season 7."
