Full time called on Hanover Quay
U2 have failed in their attempt to save their Hanover Quay studio complex from demolition.
Despite protests from the band and their neighbours, An Bord Pleanala have upheld the compulsory purchase order served on the row of buildings by the Dublin Dockland Development Authority. The DDDA want the site cleared so that there will be better public access to a proposed waterways development.
Bought by the band in 1994, Hanover Quay was used to record such landmark albums as Pop and All That You Can't Leave Behind.
However, an official spokesperson says that "arrangements have been made with the Dublin Docklands Development Authority to allow U2 to stay in the Docklands area in a new building. Details will be announced in the next few weeks."
Despite all this happening around them, U2 are hard at work sifting through your Mixed Grill questions as we speak.
