“Forget saints and scholars, we’re all fucking liars and exaggerators!”
So says Roísín Murphy of us Irish in the new Longitude special issue of Hot Press!
Roísín Murphy is the supremely stylish cover star in the new Longitiude special issue of Hot Press.
“Forget saints and scholars, we’re all fucking liars and exaggerators!” says Ms. M, nailing the Irish psyche perfectly!
In a highly revealing interview with our man Stuart Clark, she talks about growing up as a dyslexic kid in Arklow (“A lot of people thought I was naughty, and I probably became even naughtier because of that”); the move to Manchester that changed her life (“everything stems from me aged 14 buying a Sonic Youth ticket off a tout for £10”); and hotfooting it off to Sheffield after college (“Everybody I met was in a group or working for a label or a venue, which was my cue for going, ‘I can do this too!’”)
We also get her thoughts on Brexit (“Everybody’s shit scared”), her Thatcher’s-Britain-Is-So-Hot-Right-Now look (“Even when it’s very real, it’s very thought out”) and her take no prisoners new album, Take Her Up To Monto (“Here I am, this is me. I’m an Irish woman”).
