European son
Promising if uneven album from Brian Mooney
European Son is a collection of songs taken from the fertile mind of Brian Mooney, AKA Beautiful Unit. In between a few meandering musical passages (‘They Built A Road Through It’) there are some pretty exceptional songs on offer (‘Only The Mediocre Survive’) and fantastic lyrics too, which are refreshingly honest and cutting (‘Day Job Nation,’ which deals with Mooney’s thoughts on the music industry is a particular highlight). There may be some lesser moments on show, but if it were trimmed down European Son would be a phenomenal mini-album.
