Ester
Londoners make flawed but fun first album.
Despite what the hair metal moniker may suggest, London’s Trailer Trash Tracys are a genre-splicing band who employ elements of indie, psychedelia, ‘60s girl groups and rock to create an intriguing (and occasionally bewitching) brew. Ester is their first album and it’s basically a tale of two halves. For every goosebump inducing, tear-stained, Spector-esque number (such as the ghostly waltz that is ‘Candy Girl’) there’s the likes of ‘Engelhardt’s Arizona,’ which features some frankly bizarre guitar playing that sounds like Steve Vai indulging in a spot of free jazz whilst some stoner hippies attempt to sing over it. It’s an often infuriating mix of sounds, but the brooding likes of ‘You Wish You Were Red’ and ‘Turkish Heights’ ensures that interest is never lost.
