Eskimo: The Past Presents The Future
Mixed by Eskimo’s resident DJs Mo and Benoelie, this CD features some real forgotten dance music gems from the last three decades.
Mixed by Eskimo’s resident DJs Mo and Benoelie, this CD features some real forgotten dance music gems from the last three decades. Take the opening section, where 33 1/3 Queen’s ‘Disco 4’ is segued into Hall & Oates ‘I Can’t Go For That’ in turn mixed into a bonus beats version of De La Soul’s ‘Say No Go’ which samples the Hall & Oates original, before KC Flight’s Talking Heads’ pilfering ‘Planet E’ is dropped. Most DJs don’t have the imagination to attempt such a selection. Although Eskimo doesn’t quite live up to the dizzying heights set by the opening section, there’s brilliant early house cuts from Instant House and Mission Control, wah-wah guitar soul on Mount Rushmore’s ‘You Better’ and Harry Thumann’s wide screen string filled groove, ‘Underwater’. Eskimo put the ‘E’ back into eclectic with style.
