Escapism Part One
This kind of DJing is so far removed from the likes of the commercial compilations it’s just... beautiful
What is it about techno DJs these days? They all seem to be trying to outdo each other in terms of including as many tracks as possible on their mixes. First we had Umek, then Deetron and now Mr loop-and-shuffle himself, Ben Simms. Who clocks in at an impressive 41 tracks – with one track clocking in an expansive 21 seconds. But we’re just being smart. This kind of DJing is so far removed from the likes of the commercial compilations it’s just… beautiful. This is the way techno music should be played – using loops like ammunition, dropping in the odd old number (Carl Craig’s BFC project, one from Kay Alexi Shelby) and generally showing off his deft mixing skills. All the usual suspects are present and correct – Mills, Ruskin, Surgeon, Broom, Shufflemaster, Beyer – and the whole thing rocks like a motherfucker. Keep ‘em coming.
