This past weekend has seen a flurry of awards ceremony and at the Independent Spirit Awards on Sat 27th, author Emma Donoghue was awarded with Best First Screenplay for her Room script.
The Dublin-born author was the perfect candidate to write the script to Room as it was adapted from her best-selling novel of the same name.
In 2010 Hot Press interviewed Donoghue when the novel had just been published. Room was then long-listed for a Man Booker prize. "I can't even think about Room being long-listed, the most I can hope for is to make the short list." Even then, Donoghue was careful not to get her hopes up and completely unaware of what an impact that novel would have.
Now in 2016, the film adaptation has created waves in the film industry and has been at the forefront throughout this awards season, winning numerous awards at various ceremonies in which it has been nominated. Thanks to the Independent Spirit Awards, Donoghue has another accolade to add to her mantle.
Although she didn't collect an Academy Award this is of no loss as even to be named within the body of works nominated, shows the sheer caliber of Donoghue's talent.
