Emergency
Indie pop technicians maturing at a steady rate with a catchy record that shows an excess of energy and unabashed enthusiasm for heir genre
Clearly keen not to fuck around when it comes to their careers, The Pigeon Detectives are capitalising on the success of last year’s debut album Wait For Me by releasing the follow-up a mere 12 months later. In a move which is sure to make the decade-long wait for Guns ‘N’ Roses’ Chinese Democracy even more laughable by comparison, the Leeds lads reassuringly continue where they left off with more tales of booze, birds and wickedness – we wouldn’t want it any other way.
One of the reasons why I love The Pigeon Detectives at the moment is their excess of energy and unabashed enthusiasm for the forgotten art that is writing an indie-pop song. The band may have slowed the tempo down a little for this record (case in point, the ace anthem ‘This Is An Emergency’) but that doesn’t mean their songs aren’t as catchy. In fact, now that the Detectives are sounding less like frisky poodles humping your leg and more like seasoned, professional love-makers, the tunes translate better on record. While we know that the band’s brand of bubblegum pop will lose its flavour at some stage, we plan to enjoy them while we can before their bubble inevitably bursts.
Key Track: ‘Say It Like You Mean It’
