Doom & Gloom
And now to a remarkably less buzzworthy victory lap, this time from the little-disputed greatest rock and roll band of all time; six years on from their last release and 20 years since their last hit, Mick, Keith, Charlie and Ronnie celebrate the Stones’ 50th birthday with a gritty, bluesy party-starting number called ‘Doom & Gloom’. 69-year-old Jagger sounds delightfully energised, as does the fiercely air-guitarable stringwork of Richards. The subject matter on this one is a little trite, with Jagger wildly proclaiming that he just wants to dance and not worry about getting his Form 11 in the post in time for the cut-off period (I’m paraphrasing, of course), but still, you’ll be happy to hear that these aging rockers aren’t acting their age.
