Dock Street Jazz Club celebrates one year anniversary

Belfast’s Dock Street Jazz Club is celebrating the one year anniversary of its opening next month.

The club is a collaboration between the Sailortown venue and Irish jazz artist David Lyttle, who plays with many of the invited guests.

The weekly Sunday performances take place in the recently renovated upstairs room of Belfast’s historic American Bar.

Its biggest attractions over the past year include American musicians Vincent Herring, Jean Toussaint and organist Pat Bianchi, London-based Ashley Henry and Glasgow-born Jim Mullen.

Upcoming acts include Spanish saxophone player Perico Sambeat, ex-Miles Davis sideman Rick Margitza, a return visit from British vocalist Cleveland Watkiss and a collaborative event between Lyttle and American trumpeter Keyon Herrold.

Herrold won a Grammy for his trumpet work in the 2015 biopic Miles Ahead and was a musical guest in Neil deGrasse Tyson and William Shatner’s recent touring show The Universe is Absurd!

Lyttle, who curates the weekly jazz sessions, has toured in over 40 countries and was nominated for a MOBO Award in 2015.

“It’s really incredible to see jazz so alive in Belfast and feel so much support not just from the people, from the businesses and organisations I’m working with,” he said.
