The Revenge and Trus’ Me close things in style and both DJs soundtrack the ebb and flow of the end of the evening perfectly.
Tonight, your intrepid Hot Press correspondent has ventured down to the relatively new venue Love & Death Inc. to check out the burgeoning Dipso Disco night. Sponsored by Relentless Energy Drink and aiming to splice modern hip hop with underground house music, indie sounds and more, the first turn are self-proclaimed “queens of the stoned age” THEESatisfaction and the assembled throng of punters are up for it, despite the early kick-off (pardon the pun, but it is the Euros after all...)
Hailing from Seattle and signed to the iconic Sub Pop Records, hip hop duo Stas and Cat have been making all the right tongues wag of late thanks to their canny concoction of 90s-flavoured gangsta rap, free jazz and old school soul, and their almost anti-stage performance really suits the comfy confines of the sofa be-decked bar. Playing material from their debut record awE NaturalE as well as other oddities and singles, the two laptop toting ladies have a decidedly ‘70s vibe and the synchronised dance moves, handclaps and salacious subject matter (‘Bisexual’) definitely win a lot of people over. Admittedly, there are parts of their set which are a little haphazard and they struggle with some technological gremlins along the way, but ultimately they emerge unscathed and it all just seemed to add to their appeal.
Next up, Nathan Flutebox Lee & the Clinic gather around two microphones to perform an intimate set of wind-based material for our listening pleasure (no sniggering at the back). Finally, two dons of the UK house scene The Revenge and Trus’ Me close things in style and both DJs soundtrack the ebb and flow of the end of the evening perfectly.
