Devils Advocate
‘Advocate’ sees him embrace a wider range than ever.
Nearly eight years after his ‘Archive One’ debut, Dave Clarke drops his second album. The UK techno don has always eschewed purism, but ‘Advocate’ sees him embrace a wider range than ever. There’s his hip-hop and punk collaborations with Lif and Chicks On Speed respectively, the funky house of ‘The Wiggle’, reggae and electro tracks and the serene Detroit-inflected ‘Deo Gratias’. However, there’s no sign of Clarke mellowing out with age, and ‘Just Ride’, previous single ‘The Wolf’ and the driving, ‘Red’-inspired ‘Way Of Life’ prove that the devil has funkiest tunes.
