Declan O’Rourke announces new album
Recorded in Sydney, the record reflect's on O'Rourke's life and career, shaped "not only by place, but by time, memory and return," he said.
Declan O'Rourke has announced his new album, Oceanic, out October 16.
Accompanied by an Irish tour, the record will be Dublin singer-songwriter's eight studio album. Recorded in Sydney, the record reflect's on O'Rourke's life and career, shaped "not only by place, but by time, memory and return," he said.
The run of live shows will commence on October 8 at the Cork Opera House, also stopping at Westmeath's Mullingar Arts Centre on October 10, Dublin's Vicar Street on October 17, and more.
O'Rourke released his debut album Since Kyabram in 2004, taking its name from the south Australian town of Kyabram. He has recorded a lot of his music in Australia, with the upcoming Oceanic set to capture his life across two continents.
His relationship with the country also extends to his recent film debut, where he took on the lead role in the upcoming Australian production Almost With You, due August 15, which includes nine of his original songs.
Oceanic, recorded with his longtime friend and collaborator Jim Moginie (Midnight Oil), follows his 2021 album Arrivals, "the most emotionally raw and affecting album of his career."
"Such a wondrous singer and musician, Dec has made something truly magical and shape shifting here, and in returning to his second home on the other side of the world to make this feels like a real homecoming," said Moginie about the collaboration.
Last year, O'Rourke celebrated the 20th anniversary of Since Kyabram by releasing a reedition of his debut record. To mark the occasion, he also performed a series of special concerts, including a date in Dublin's Spindizzy, as well as in the National Concert Hall in February.
In January, he performed at the First Fortnight Mental Health Arts & Culture Festival in The Abbey Theatre, alongside Deidre O'Kane in conversation, with music from Toshín. Read more about the event here.
You can pre-order Oceanic here.
