Comprising REM's Peter Buck, Belle And Sebastian's Richard Colburn, The Minus 5's Scott McCaughey, Grammy Award-winning Irish producer Jacknife Lee, and the already chummy trio of Troy Stewart, Iain Archer and - well, he wrote all the songs - Gary Lightbody, Tired Pony is clearly the most unfeasibly large band in rock 'n' roll history. 'Dead American Writers' is a deliberately messy affair (part Wilco, part Tammy Wynette). Thankfully, the melody's in the right place.
