Dark Night of the Soul
Hugely impressive collaboration between Brian Burton and the sorely missed Mark Linkous
Long delayed, this collaboration between Brian Burton and the late Mark Linkous is worth the wait. As you'd expect, the album is a collection of down-tempo mood music, with Danger Mouse's dream-pop sensibilities and Linkous' melancholy alt country sensibilities complementing each other superbly.
As well as the two leading artists, Dark Night Of The Soul features contributions from an all-star array of rock talent, including The Flaming Lips, Julian Casablancas, Nina Persson, Iggy Pop and Frank Black. Fittingly for such a suite of haunted - and haunting - music, the beautifully surreal album artwork is provided by David Lynch.
Bold and bewitching, Dark Night Of The Soul is a superb album and a fittingly sombre memorial for Mark Linkous.
