CSS: Planta
Shaky return to form from the Brazilians...
Once the hottest thing in alternative music, Brazil’s CSS have gone through a rough patch. Two years ago, founder and chief songwriter Adriano Cinto left, claiming the rest of the band were impossible to work with. Now an all-girl quartet led by singer Loveofoxxx, they’ve soldiered on, with TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek producing what is their fourth album.
Opener ‘Honey’ sets the tone. This is synthesized art pop of the sort you might encounter in a trying-far-too-hard-to-be-cool clothes shop. They sound oddly like Kasabian on ‘Too Hot’ and dabble effectively in anthemic dance on ‘Hungover’ and ‘Into The Sun’. Despite what the English translation of their name might suggest, Lovefoxxx and company are not tired of being sexy quite yet. Which is fine by me...
Key Track: 'Too Hot'
