Chuck Negron, founding member of Three Dog Night, dies aged 83
The legendary musician passed away on Sunday night in his Los Angeles home.
Chuck Negron has died at age 83 in Studio City, Los Angeles.
The Three Dog Night co-founder dealt with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and heart failure leading up to his passing.
Born June 8, 1942, Negron spent his youth singing in doo-wop groups in the Bronx.
In 1967, he formed Three Dog Night with Cory Wells and Irish-born Danny Hutton. By 1975, the Los Angeles band had 21 Billboard Hot 100 Top 40 hits.
Negron was known for his classic rock vocals, heard on 'Joy to the World', 'One', 'The Show Must Go On', and 'An Old Fashioned Love Song'.
Three Dog Night disbanded in 1976, in part due to Negron's drug addiction. He checked into rehab in 1991 and soon resumed his music career as a solo artist, before reconnecting with the band in his later years.
Three Dog Night were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2000. The band's most recent iteration, which does not include Negron, played Whelan's in Dublin last October.
Negron is survived by his wife, Ami Albea Negron, and five children.
