Cat And Mouse
The terrific debut album by Michael “Owensie” Owens has hardly become the talk of the town since it was released back in January, but it’s still easily one of our favorite Irish records of the year. The beautifully sleepy ‘Cat And Mouse’ was a clear standout from the start, so it comes as very good news that it’s gotten the remix treatment from another of our beloved homegrown music makers, Darragh Nolan, aka Sacred Animals. The subject matter may be grim (Owens was inspired by the story of three Russian asylum seekers who jumped to their death in an apparent suicide pact in Glasgow last year), but with the added bonus of Nolan’s fizzing bleeps and charging percussion, the track has become more triumphant than ever.
