Cannibal Corpse, Kreator, Krtisiun
A veritable feast of extreme death metal for all the family.
One of the best death metal line-ups of the year guarantees a full house at the Temple Bar Music Centre despite a Monday night billing. First up are the fast-rising Krisiun, who are a real revelation with their take on Morbid Angel meets Deicide. This four-piece, all the way from Brazil, win more than a few friends tonight with a stunning racket full of rampant double bass and roaring vocals. Certainly no bad advertisement for their latest release Ageless Venomous.
It seems like a thousand years since Kreator last visited these shores but they make up for it tonight bringing their full stage show, with a blood-red, wrap-round backdrop complemented by impressive lights.
With the PA, warmed-up by Krisiun, now at full clout the sound is simply jaw-dropping as Mille and his band of teutonic thrashmeisters rage through a set full of classics sourced from their huge back catalogue.
The unenviable task of following Kreator lies with the gore-fixated Cannibal Corpse. Subtlety was never a strong point for the band that gave us ‘Hammer-Smashed Face’, ‘Addicted To Vaginal Skin’, ‘Shredded Humans’ and ‘Force-Fed Broken Glass’. And tonight is no exception.
Listening to Jim Carrey’s favourite band is much like being slowly taken apart. We get all these delightful ditties and a lot more besides. George ‘Corpsegrinder’ Fisher proves himself more than a worthy replacement for Chris Barnes and, as the band dish out the musical entrails in increasingly brutal fashion, the frighteningly violent moshpit looks set to force its way onto the stage despite the best efforts of overworked security bods.
All in all, a veritable feast of extreme death metal for all the family.
